At RS Lease, we not only lease locomotives, but also provide comprehensive servicing. So when one of our partners needs a machine repaired or overhauled, we take care of it.
Most recently, locomotive 383.102, leased from us by Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (Slovak Railways), underwent an overhaul.
This machine has traveled 1,200,000 kilometers in less than four years. Its utilization is mainly due to the fact that it is one of the passenger locomotives that runs on the busy Bratislava-Košice route.
What does an overhaul look like?
After we agreed on the overhaul with ZSSK, the locomotive was out of service for four weeks. During this time, important components were inspected or replaced.
"Some components are replaced depending on their technical condition (e.g., wheels). However, there are also parts of the locomotive that are replaced regardless of their condition (e.g., the compressor)," explains RS Lease Director Tibor Čunderlík.
Most of the work is carried out at ŽOS Vrútky. However, we transport the bogies to Munich because they are inspected there.
To give you a better idea of what a locomotive inspection looks like, we have included several photos.
And what happens once the locomotive has been fully inspected? We return it to the carrier, in this case Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (Slovak Railway Company), which puts it back into service.
